Freehold Areas
Freehold ownership entitles the buyer to have title over the land as well as the structure and is the most secure form of residential ownership. All Qatari and GCC nationals have the right to own property on a freehold basis. Foreigners can own property on a freehold basis at The Pearl-Qatar, West Bay Lagoon and the Barwa Al Khour development.
West Bay Lagoon
West Bay Lagoon is situated 20kms north of the capital Doha in the area of The Ritz Carlton hotel and the Doha Golf Club. Any individual may buy a readymade property or a plot of land on a freehold basis and build a property to his own specific design. However being a relatively small area, vacant plots are becoming increasingly scarce and land prices are reflecting this and the exclusivity associated with living there.
The Pearl-Qatar
United Development Company (UDC) is the Master Developer of this multi-billion USD man-made island covering 985 acres (400 hectares) of reclaimed land located approximately 6kms to the north of West Bay. It is Qatar’s first international real estate venture and the first to offer international investors freehold residential rights to the international community.
The Pearl-Qatar is a four-phase mixed-use development comprising ten distinct, themed districts housing beachfront villas, elegant town homes, luxury apartments, exclusive penthouses, 5 star hotels, marinas, schools as well as upscale retail and restaurant offerings. When fully developed, the island will be home to 40,000 residents. Target completion date is 2010.
Urjuan
The town of Al Khor is approximately 50kms north of Doha. Barwa Al Khour, now called ‘Urjuan’, will be an eco-friendly residential project comprising apartments, villas, townhouses and beachfront chalets. This project has been launched in November 2008 and is scheduled to complete in 2011.
